- When Roger, a delinquent boy, is sent to live with his grandfather for the summer, he discovers his grandfather is secretly protecting a friendly, turtle-like creature named Mel. Because of Roger's reckless behavior, his grandfather is put in jail, and a greedy land developer captures Mel. To free his grandfather and save Mel, Roger has to take responsibility for his actions and find the courage to set Mel free
