Summary
  • Mighty rivers, tells the stories of some of Canada's most impressive rivers. From the St. Lawrence and its devious shifting shoals to the Green River of British Columbia where Grizzly bears come to feed on the abundant salmon population. The program visits with archeologists along Alberta's Red Deer River as they try to solve a mystery that will allow them to uncover one of the great dinosaur burial grounds. We also go to Northern British Columbia and learn of a river so wild that no one has ever been able to navigate its entire length. There are chasms there nearly as large as the Grand Canyon
  • Spectacular lakes, looks at some of Canada's spectacular lakes. Half of the world's fresh water is in Canadian lakes. The most spectacular are the Great Lakes of which Lake Superior is the greatest. The program looks at Bras Dor Lake in Nova Scotia, the home and burial place of Alexander Graham Bell and his wife. Lake Winnipeg is a shallow lake and for that reason very dangerous. This was quickly discovered by the huge numbers of Icelanders who came to this lake to escape Iceland
  • Rugged coasts, follows the 1941 voyage of the R.C.M.P. schooner, St. Roch, as it attempted to become the first vessel to circumvent the Northwest passage. By tracing the route of the St. Roch in modern day the viewer can se how little has changed along Canada's rugged coast. The program begins on the west coast with tales of shipwrecks and lighthouses, and follows the coast to the Arctic Ocean, ending in the North Atlantic Ocean at Signal Hill in Labrador and the story of Marconi and the telegraph.. All along the route the history, geography and wildlife of the coast is explored
